Hohenwerfen Castle

Experience the Middle Ages up close!

Now the Middle Ages greet you in one of the most beautiful castles in Austria. For over 900 years, the mighty Burg Hohenwerfen perched on its steep, 155 meter high rock cone over the Salzach Valley. Over the centuries, the castle was the scene of attacks and sieges. Great rulers and sovereigns were prisoners at the castle.

Embark on a fascinating journey through time to the Middle Ages. A castle tour includes a visit to the castle chapel, the pitch kitchen, the arsenal, the battlements, the bell tower and the adapted princely room. Insight into medieval life is also provided by the exhibition of weapons and the exhibition on building history.

The falconry is still reminiscent of the former hunting property of Salzburg archbishops. In addition to the Landesfalkenhof, there are further insights into the Falconry Museum and the Greifvogel nature trail. Daily flight demonstrations give an insight into the picking hunt.
